The Philippines is home to an incredible array of marine animals, including whales, dolphins, sea birds, and critically endangered dugongs and sea turtles. There are at least 26 species of cetaceans (whales and dolphins) found here. In most parts of the country, a stranded whale or dolphin is most likely to be slaughtered for food before any help can be found. WIN works with Ocean Adventure to rescue stranded marine mammals and provide critical care and rehabilitation.
WIN and Ocean Adventure are currently working with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to train staff in cetacean rescue through our Cetacean Stranding Response Workshop. We are also working with BFAR on the creation of a National Marine Mammal Stranding Network. Much of the funding for these projects has been provided by the Sea World Busch Gardens Conservation Fund.
